Time limit: 8 minutes.
103 Open Duet
One song, own selection.
Time Limit: 4 minutes.
We will be holding a Vocal nomination at our 2025 competitions for the 2026 PACANZ NYPA finals.
Each performer will perform 3 items:
20th or 21st Century Art Song,
Aria (Opera or Oratoria)
Own selection.
Songs selected must not be used in any other class entered.
Time limit: 12 to 15 minutes.
Refer to PACANZ website for further details and entry criteria.
1. Competitors are to prepare an Aria of their own selection.
Repertoire: The Aria may be chosen from the entire range of the operatic literature as currently performed in opera houses around the world, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Verismo, Modern, Opera Comique and Operetta.
All Arias must be sung in the original key and language set by the composer.
The time limit is 7 minutes.
The Aria will be performed on the evening of Saturday, 20 September 2025, in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre, Forum North , Whangārei.
2. Competitors must also compete in both:
Class 115 - German Lieder and
Class 111 - 20th/21st Century Art Song.
The time limit for each class is 4 minutes.
These classes will take place on the evening of Friday, 19 September 2025, in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre, Forum North, Whangārei.
3. Competitors must be 18 years or over and under 31 years, on 1 September 2025.
4. All songs are to be accompanied by a collaborative pianist.
No official accompanists are appointed. Organisation of accompanists, rehearsals and payments will be negotiated between the competitor and an available collaborative pianist.
5. The Joan Kennaway Aria award will be presented on the evening of Saturday, 20 September 2025.
The award placings will be given based solely on the Adjudicator’s discretion, with majority weighting given to Class 116 – Operatic Aria.
6. Cost for entering is as follows:
$15 Class 115 - German Lieder.
$15 Class 111 - 20th/21st Century Art Song.
$30 Class 116 - Operatic Aria.
7. Entries open on the Sunday,1 June 2025
At 12pm for Northland residents.
1pm for all other regions.
Entries close on Friday, 27 June 2025.
Entries are limited to 12 competitors. Entries will close early if 12 paid entries are received before 27 June 2025.
8. Prizes are as follows:
First Place: $3,500 cash prize
Joan Kennaway Aria Trophy and miniature.
Second Place: $1,000 cash prize.
Third Place: $500 cash prize.
