Jazz & Tap Adjudicator 2024
Emily Down
I grew up in Wellington training in RAD Ballet, NZAMD Tap and Jazz, competing in Ballet, Tap and Jazz competitions, before embarking on Performing Arts full-time in Melbourne, Australia.
My early career, upon graduating consisted of performing in many corporate events, pantomimes, television, film and musicals in Australia, UK and Europe.
After 11 years overseas, I returned to New Zealand where I have spent the last 20 years, dancing, teaching and choreographing, mainly for future dancers and performers.
After an 18 year stint freelancing and teaching on Te Auaha’s full-time Commercial Dance and Musical Theatre courses in Wellington, I opened my own dance school, The Academy Dance and Stage School. It has since merged with another school, to become Elite Dance Company.
I have adjudicated and taught many workshops across New Zealand. For the past 18 years, I have taught and choreographed competition students gaining many PACANZ nominations for Modern Jazz soloists and multiple troupe nominations.
I have loved passing on my passion for dance and performance to future dancers. I am really excited to be back in Whangarei adjudicating after 10 years!
